TRAVELLING SCHOOLS

Cinema in schools

“A place for time” (1984)

In the 80s a group of teachers from the Colegio de La Borreca imagined a travelling school where cinema and fantasy would gather the premises of a type of dynamic teaching, closer to experimental practice, teamwork and everything that would motivate students to approach knowledge.

The film “A place for time”, based on the novel “Momo” by Michael Ende, was filmed during the 83/84 school year. The chosen settings were Ponferrada (streets, school and castle), Plaza de Campo, Cornatel castle, Carracedo monastery, Montes de Valdueza monastery, Orellán and Las Médulas.

The young apprentices were to be introduced to concepts such as screenwriting, planning, framing, angles, travelling shots, etc. And above all, to patiently endure the iron direction of Carlos de Cabo, who also got into acting as if producing, writing, directing, filming, editing and sounding were not enough…

The protagonist of this film is Mari Carmen Fernández Yebra from Salas de Los Barrios who plays the famous Momo, from the novel by Michel Ende. But José Antonio Correa, the great supporting actor of Spanish cinema and theatre, Jorge Pombo, Miguel A. Fernández, Francisco Cobo, Cuadrillero, Tascón and others also worked altruistically. And the children from the La Borreca School, who today look forty years older.
